Problem
For decades, marine restoration has struggled to keep pace with degradation. Traditional artificial reefs often rely on concrete or other non-biocompatible materials, offer limited habitat complexity, and do not consistently support broaderl ecosystem recovery.. Site selection is often reactive rather than strategic, monitoring can be inconsistent, and outcomes are rarely framed in ways that connect restoration to risk mitigation or long-term asset value.

Solution
Archireef has built a fully integrated platform combining risk assessment, eco-engineering, and data-driven monitoring into one cohesive system.
It begins with intelligence. Using satellite-derived environmental data and historical stressor mapping, Archireef conducts rapid site assessments to identify where intervention may deliver the strongest ecological and resilience value.
From there, Archireef delivers tailored marine restoration interventions designed for site conditions, biodiversity goals, and infrastructure context. Its work includes modular, 3D-printed Reef Tiles made from porous terracotta, designed to , support coral attachment, reduce sediment smothering, and create habitat complexity for reef-associated species, as well as Eco SeaWall Panels for built marine environments. More broadly, the company’s approach is built to help clients integrate ecological function into coastal and marine environments in a way that is measurable, practical, and aligned with long-term planning needs.
Crucially, Archireef couples this hardware with rigorous monitoring, reporting. Through photogrammetry, AI-assisted fish identification, and eDNA analysis, the company tracks coral growth, biodiversity recovery, and ecological changeover time. These insights are delivered through structured reporting aligned with emerging nature-risk and biodiversity disclosure frameworks, giving clients clearer, decision-useful measures of ecological performance.
Impact
Archireef’s monitored deployments show encouraging, site-specific results. To date, the company has restored over 700 m² of marine habitat and surveyed more than 95,000 m² across selected coastal and marine environments, supported by as-built documentation, baseline assessments, and monitoring plans. In one monitored Hong Kong deployment, Reef Tiles recorded88% coral survivorship, alongside a 7-fold increase in fish abundance, 45% higher invertebrate presence relative to unrestored sites, and eDNA-detected biodiversity gains. These outcomes are based on defined monitoring protocols and should be understood as site-specific. Deployments in the Middle East have also shown promising signs of marine life returning within months. Together, these results prove that restoration can be both scientifically rigorous and operationally scalable.

Katapult Ocean invested in Archireef because the company is helping shift marine restoration toward a more measurable, infrastructure-aligned model. During our diligence, we saw peer‑reviewed ecological data, strong survivorship metrics, repeat engagement from sophisticated buyers, and clear alignment with broader regulatory and capital-market shifts toward nature-risk management.
We were equally impressed by the founding team’s combination of scientific depth and commercial execution. Co‑founded by marine scientist Vriko Yu, and Deniz Tekerek, Archireef has evolved from a research initiative into a fast-scaling company partnering with corporates and governments across Hong Kong, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore.
